It's been almost two years at home. I realized my dream of working from home, and it has been both a challenge and an opportunity.
Many things have changed in the last (almost) two years. A world that once seemed predictable was turned on its head. Eyes opened. Thoughts changed. Heels dug in deeper. And it is not as clear where we will be two years from now. Will we (the royal "we") have learned from this pandemic experience? Will meaningful, lasting change happen, or will we return to the status quo as if nothing ever happened? Two years from now, will this all be a distant memory, like the Spanish Flu pandemic?
I challenge you to engage in some reflection. Almost two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, what are your biggest challenges and greatest achievements? What has changed for you? What are you hoping will be different six months, one year, and two years from today? These are big questions, and I think there is value in thinking about them and writing them down, not just as a moment of self-reflection, but also as societal reflection.
Looking back at articles like this one published in Rolling Stone near the beginning of the pandemic about the disproportionate challenges that working moms had (and continue to have), will we look back and possibly view this period of time as a significant societal turning point? Or will it simply be a lesson learned in the deep history of our past?
Peace,
Michelle D.
